With profound sadness, the Alberto Benveniste Chair of Sephardic Studies joins the expressions of sorrow for the passing of Professor António Borges Coelho, Emeritus Full Professor of the Department of History at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon and member of CESAB’s Scientific Committee, whose projects he always followed with great interest and close involvement.
Within his vast body of work, his research and publications devoted to the Sephardic Diaspora, the intellectual activity of Portuguese New Christians, and inquisitorial repression stand out as enduring landmarks of contemporary Portuguese historiography.
With deep gratitude for the intellectual and human legacy António Borges Coelho leaves behind, CESAB extends its most heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
