About Us

The Cátedra de Estudos Sefarditas Alberto Benveniste is a scientific institution hosted by the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa that seeks to encourage historical research on Sephardic communities of Portuguese origin. Created in 1996 by the Benveniste family and in honour of the memory of Alberto Benveniste, the Cátedra de Estudos Sefarditas has as it main initiative the development of scientific research in this field, as well as the organisation of activities, the promotion and participation in national and international research projects, the publication of the journal Cadernos de Estudos Sefarditas and publishing of specialized works.

This site is a vehicle for the dissemination of the work developed by CESAB and its researchers.
