Researcher Carla Vieira will take part in the seminar “Atlantic Voices in Colonial
Newport: Rethinking Trade, Religion, and Culture in the Early Modern Atlantic”
on October 29, in Newport, Rhode Island. This seminar will discuss the role of
Portuguese and Spanish as minority languages in colonial Newport and as
vehicles for the integration of this port city into mercantile networks and the
Sephardic diaspora across the Atlantic.
