Un recorrido por la vida y obra de Joseph Penso de Vega por Fernando Pancorbo (SNSF / Universität Basel)
Synopsis
It’s not always convenient to separate author and work, especially when it comes to a writer who dedicated much of his time to finding a balance between his commitment to his faith and his community, his activities as a merchant and trader and his passion for literature. In fact, these three aspects are closely linked in his texts and end up moulding his own literary personality.
The aim of this conference is to present biographical news about the author that will allow us to trace a precise biographical trajectory, supported by the official documentation of the communities he knew (mainly Amsterdam and Livorno), and to observe how, In parallel, both his cultural profile and his work evolved, from the first writings of his youth, even before Prisioneros de la esperanza (אסירי התקוה, Amsterdam, 1670), to his best-known work, Confusión de confusiones (Amsterdam, 1688).
