\nThe Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth hosted the most significant Jewish community in the early modern world. Jews lived mainly in towns; they constituted a significant part of the country\u2019s urban population. In those towns, Jews and Christians encountered each other on a daily basis. In a microhistorical case study of the town Sluck, those encounters will be analyzed. Questions about patterns of cooperation and conflicts will be asked during the lecture.<\/p>\n
Maria Cieśla, Phd specialized in the early modern Jewish history of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth; she is especially interested in the Christian-Jewish encounters and the economic and social history of the Jews.
